The second part begins with a discussion of relativistic particle mechanics from both the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian points of view. Based on courses taught at the University of Dublin, Carnegie Mellon University, and mostly at Simon Fraser University, this book presents the special theory of relativity from a mathematical point of view. It begins with the axioms of the Minkowski vector space and the flat spacetime manifold. The final chapter deals with recent work on classical fields in an eight-dimensional covariant phase space.. Extending the discussion to spinors, the author shows how a unimodular mapping of spinor (vector) space can induce a proper, orthochronous Lorentz mapping on the Minkowski vector space. The book then turns to the relativistic (classical) field theory, including a proof of Noether's theorem and discussions of the Klein-Gordon, electromagnetic, Dirac, and non-abelian gauge fields. Then it discusses the kinematics of special relativity in terms of Lorentz tranformations, and treats the group structure of Lorentz transformations

Bartholomew says keeping that tension intact is crucial to understanding the book. The ending is satisfactory and each story is given a proper ending but I found myself wanting a little more. I love the examples which are all very helpful.. ix (19)). I would have given this book five stars, but for the typography; the font is a little too wacky for beginning readers."How Much Can a Bare Bear Bear?" is written in fun and engaging rhyme, with quirky and creative illustrations by Brian Gable. When Malcolm mentions telephoning concert violinist Erica Morini, I recalled the wonderful afternoon I spent in New York in 1962 in her apartment listening to the piano trios she played with Lazlo Varga (principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic) and my brother. In today's age of quick, informal e-mails, it is wonderful to have these thoughtful letters, which have great appeal for pianists and conductors in particular and serious classical musicians in general. The actual title of the book is DEAR MAX/LIEBER MALCOLM:THE RUDOLF/FRAGER CORRESPONDENCE. Please stop now if you don't like spoilers. We at last have a rounded picture of the man and I like him so much more as a human being as opposed to just Miles the consumate musician. There is one story about Miles at the time of the 1975 Agharta and Pangaea live recordings which was so touching. Something as simple as a lamp for the nightstand sounds easy until you ae faced with a
