He does note that much of what he offers from his Jesuit life could be adopted by non-Christians. The other problem was that it was out of print.You won't know just how happy I was to find that Under the Cherry Blossom Tree had been re-printed until you read this book for yourself.. Plus it would give this great book even more class. When Malcolm mentions telephoning concert violinist Erica Morini, I recalled the wonderful afternoon I spent in New York in 1962 in her apartment listening to the piano trios she played with Lazlo Varga (principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic) and my brother.In today's age of quick, informal e-mails, it is wonderful to have these thoughtful letters, which have great appeal for pianists and conductors in particular and serious classical musicians in general.The actual title of the book is DEAR MAX/LIEBER MALCOLM:THE RUDOLF/FRAGER CORRESPONDENCE. The author has a way of making you care about the characters even in the little time you spend with them.The memory flashbacks play an important part, and were an ingenious device, just as they were in the last one.
